Benjamin P. Busch

Benjamin P. Busch, 51, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, in Appleton.

Ben was born in Wisconsin on July 14, 1964, to the late Roger Mason and Sharon (Schliting) Cole. On July 21, 1989, Ben was united in marriage to Kris Campbell. Ben spent all his married life in Shawano. He was a member of Assembly of God and liked playing darts.

Ben is survived by his wife, Kris; two sons, Brandon and Shawn (Brianna) Busch; one granddaughter, Emma; and a brother, Norman (Jessie) Mason.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Roger Mason; his mom, Sharon Cole; and one brother, Caron Mason.

Private family services will be held.

LaVerne E. Roth

LaVerne E. Roth, 87, of Eland, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015.

LaVerne was born on Aug. 28, 1928, in Clintonville, to the late Walley and Myrtle (Behling) Pingel. She grew up on her parents’ farm in the Clintonville area.

On April 28, 1946, LaVerne married Robert Roth, of Eland, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Clintonville. Together they farmed for 31 years in the Eland area and raised five boys. After LaVerne and Bob moved off the farm, LaVerne worked as a cook at the Birnamwood Elementary School.

Family gatherings meant a lot to LaVerne. She loved being with all her children and grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, and family gatherings always included several of her wonderful pies. Her chocolate cake with boiled frosting was a family favorite. She loved making wedding cakes and enjoyed camping and gardening.

Her faith, love of family and spirit of always putting others first is what she will always be remembered for.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Robert; her four sons, Larry (Deb), Dennis (Mary), Milan (Brenda) and Robert Jr. (Rose); her grandchildren, Cheri (Chris) Dieringer, David Roth, Leslie (Doug) Brei, Bobby, Terri, Laura and Michelle Roth; her great-grandchildren, Alex and Julia Dieringer, Koy and Jay Brei; her stepgrandchildren, Melissa (Ron) Hall, Brittany Kessel and Parker Kessel; her great-stepgrandchildren, Eve Hall, Adam and Kassie Kessel; one great-stepgrandchild due at the end of October; her sister, Carolee Roth; her brothers, Arlyn (Joyce) Pingel, Marlyn (Merry) Pingel and Walley (Debbie) Pingel; daughter-in-law, Kathy Roth; brother-in-law, Jackie (Irene) Roth; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, LaVerne was preceded in death by a son, Harvey; her sister and brother-in-law, Leisla (John) Surprise; and a brother-in-law, Herbie Roth.

Funeral services for LaVerne will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Wittenberg, with the Rev. Clifford Kessen officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, from 4-7 p.m. at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, and again on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Delores M. Schweitzer

Delores Mary Schweitzer, 79, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Appleton.

Delores was born in Milwaukee on Dec. 22, 1935, to the late Edward and Kathrine (Weting) Barbian. On June 14, 1952, in Milwaukee, Delores was united in marriage to Thomas Schweitzer. She was very involved with Red River Riders.

Delores is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thomas; their children, Linda (Randall) Contant, of Lake Geneva, Patricia (Michael) Zellmer, of Costa Mesa, California, John (Tammy) Schweitzer, of Mayville, David (Linda) Schweitzer, of Horicon, James Schweitzer, of Shawano, and Diane (Allen) Hartwig, of Clintonville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Kenneth Barbian, of Milwaukee; as well as her sister-in-law, Delores (John) Gill, of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clifford and James, and one sister-in-law, Joan.

Private family services were held. Entombment will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Milwaukee.

Memorials may be directed to Red River Riders in Delores’s name.

Allen D. Montour

Allen D. Montour, 80, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Oct. 12, 2015, at ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano.

Allen was born on June 17, 1935, in Shawano, a son of the late Joseph and Doris (Monroe) Montour Richards. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School. On Oct. 13, 1952, Allen entered the United States Navy. He served his country during the Korean War until June 11, 1956. He and his brother, Don, were both assigned to the USS Marshall.

Upon returning from service, Allen lived in the town of Wescott area. He was united in marriage to the former Frances Wilbur, who preceded him in death on Aug. 29, 2001. He worked for many years with the Teamsters Union and Local 127. Allen was an avid Packers fan and outdoorsman who enjoyed trout fishing. Allen was a longtime member of the Shawano Fish and Game Club.

Survivors include his sister, Nina (Gary) Kunschke, of Shawano; his sister-in-law, Shirley Montour, of Appleton; his brother-in-law, Lester Schreiber, of Shawano; two very special cousins, Kenneth and Catherine Monroe, of LeFlore, Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Marjorie Schreiber; his brother, Don Montour; and two brothers in infancy.

Funeral services for Allen will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano. Pastor Marty Black will officiate. Interment will take place in the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott. Full military honors will be conducted by Shawano American Legion Post 117. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service.

Lester Richard John Quandt

Lester Quandt, 78, of Bonduel, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, after a courageous, nine-year battle with liver cancer. Throughout his battle, he never gave up. “When you’re hurting you need to keep trying.” He gave 110 percent, just like he always said.

Lester was born in the town of Hartland on Aug. 16, 1937, to the late Willie and Leona (Boettcher) Quandt. He was baptized on Sept. 5, 1937, and confirmed in his faith in May 1948. He was a 1956 graduate of Bonduel High School. On June 8, 1963, Lester was united in marriage to Sandra Adeline Gruetzmacher at Zion Lutheran Church in Readfield. Lester was a lifetime member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Angelica where he served as custodian for many years. He also worked at Graf’s Creamery for 49 years and drove truck for J.W. Enterprises, all while farming the family farm which he did until the very last year of his life. Lester enjoyed making maple syrup, making firewood, sucker fishing, and driving truck, which included all the people he met while trucking. He also enjoyed bowling, attending Timber Rattlers games, eating out, listening to polka music, and polka dancing. He truly loved to watch the grandchildren play in the band and play sports. He was always there to help a family member out, even when he was taking chemo and it was obvious he wasn’t feeling well. He just pushed on, a true role model for his family. He enjoyed the trips he took to the Badlands, Corn Palace, Branson, Mount Rushmore, the Leinenkugel Brewery, and any trip that took him to see one of his grandchildren.

Lester cherished all the wonderful memories and gifts that family, friends, and neighbors gave him, especially the visits. The last year was a roller coaster of emotions for the whole family, and the gift appreciated most of all were all the prayers. Lester spoke often of how wonderful his wife was for taking care of him, and with the assistance of hospice, he was able to stay home and did not have to go into a nursing home.

Lester is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra; three children, Annette (Clark) Commons, Jeanette (Mark) Wagester and Brian Quandt, all of Bonduel; his grandchildren, Amanda (Cameron) Cunningham, of Green Bay, Nikki (Chris) Goeben, of Waupaca, Brandon, Kayla Ann and Joseph Wagester, and Haley and Kylie Quandt, of Bonduel; a great-granddaughter, Emma Cunningham; two brothers, Adolph Quandt, of Shawano, and Eddie (Kathy) Quandt, of Green Bay; a sister, Vanitta Brusewitz, of Bonduel; brothers-in-law, Gustave Drage, Dan (Sue) Gruetzmacher and David Gruetzmacher; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Sommers, Ruth Pankow, Carol Jane (Fred) Huebner, and Delores (Paul) Westphal; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Leslie; his parents; sisters, Cecila Drage and Dora Wauters; a sister-in-law, Viola Quandt; brothers-in-law, Charlie Wauters, Maynard Brusewitz, Harold Gruetzmacher, Eldor (Mary) Gruetzmacher, Aaron Pankow, Arthur Sommers, and David Young; as well as a nephew, Jerry Gruetzmacher.

A funeral service for Lester will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Zachow with the Rev. Virgil Hanson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Peggy A. Buckbee

Peggy Ann Buckbee, 60, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Neenah from a recurrence of cancer. Peggy was born in Shawano on May 29, 1955, to Douglas and Joyce (Hoffman) Goers. On Oct. 26, 1974, in Shawano, she was united in marriage to Chuck Buckbee. She lived in the Shawano area all her life. Peggy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, enjoyed trips to Canada with family, gardening, cooking, and canning. She loved her dog AJ, but most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Chuck; their son, Shane (Leslie) Buckbee, of Shawano; two grandchildren, Braxton and Miley; her parents, Doug and Joyce Goers, of Shawano; one sister, Tami (Fred) DeKeyser, of Shawano; as well as one niece, Averi (Rod) Peralta; and great-niece and great-nephews, Alex, Gabriela, and Santana.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano from 4-7 p.m. and again at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Darlene A. Prey

Darlene A. Prey, 88, of Clintonville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, in Shawano. Darlene was born on Feb. 18, 1927, in Gresham to the late James and Bessie (Richards) Fischer. On May 29, 1948, in Gresham, she was united in marriage to Donald C. Prey. Donald preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1990. Darlene and Donald farmed in the town of Waukechon for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, where she was a founding member of the Ladies Aid. Darlene enjoyed gardening, cooking and quilting.

Darlene is survived by: her children, David (Christine) Prey and Dennis Prey, both of Clintonville; two grandchildren, Nicholas (Deanna) Prey and Michael (Erin) Prey, of Shawano; and two great-grandchildren, Madden and Saylor.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, two brothers and one sister.

Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, with the Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating. A memorial fund has been established for St. John Lutheran Church. Swedberg Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.

Willard “Willie” Ingalls

Willard “Willie” Ingalls, 72, Shawano, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, after a 13-year struggle with Lewy Body Dementia. The son of Gordon and Tillie (Schuirman) Ingalls was born June 22, 1943, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He was a 1961 graduate of Pulaski High School. Willie owned and operated a beauty shop in Pulaski. He later worked for Carver Yacht as a truck driver, where he delivered yachts to all 48 continental states and some provinces of Canada. He had a passion for riding and taking care of his horses, which he owned for almost all of his life.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene Ingalls, Shawano; three children, Shawn (Amy) Ingalls, Pulaski, Shane (Cindy) Ingalls, Pulaski, and Shad Ingalls, Pulaski; two step-children, Jim (Bonnie) Prokopovitz, Pulaski, and Greg (Lisa) Mastey, Pulaski; grandchildren, Daniel, Vicky (Steven), Kris, Grace, Isaac, Catrina, Rachel and Olivia; step-grandchildren, Whitney, Zak; and Justin; eight great-grandchildren; Verna Hassenfeldt, who was just like a granddaughter; siblings, Pat (Don) Wegener, Arizona, and Gwen (Leonard) Siolka, Krakow; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Craig (Lisa) Kosbab, and Mary (Kevin) Brunette; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie and Keith (Jean) Ingalls; and his canine companion, Caine.

Private family services will take place at a later date.

Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service of Shawano is serving the Ingalls family.

The family extends a special thanks to the caring staff at Maple View for their compassionate care while Willie struggled with Lewy Body Dementia. In order to help with the research of this condition, Willie has donated his brain to Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center.

Doris M. Steenbock

Doris M. Steenbock, 80, of Clintonville, entered her Heavenly home early Saturday morning, Oct. 17, 2015, at the Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano after courageously battling the effects of a stroke over the past year.

Doris was born on May 26, 1935, in the town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, as the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret (Kautz) Schwenke. She attended Morning Star School, then St. Martin Lutheran School and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1952.

Doris was united in marriage to her best friend and love of her life, Henry Steenbock, on April 16, 1955, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Pella Opening Church. The couple resided in Clintonville, where Doris was an excellent homemaker and worked as an operator for Urban Telephone, which became Frontier Communications, before her retirement. Doris and Henry raised three children and enjoyed spending time with their family at family gatherings. They looked forward to spending time with all of them at their cottage on Shawano Lake. Doris loved to travel with Henry and in more recent years enjoyed a trip to Germany with her daughter, Kathy. Henry preceded his wife in death on April 11, 2009.

Doris had solid faith in her Lord and was a member at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville, where she was active with the Ladies Aid and the Quilting Bee. She had a servant’s heart and enjoyed volunteering in her community with the food pantry, blood bank and the Lutheran Thrift Store in Shawano. Doris loved a good game of sheepshead or bridge and enjoyed the friendships she made through her card clubs. Always one to stay active, she enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, baking in her spare time and staying busy with numerous projects. She touched many lives and was the best mother and grandmother for her family. A true blessing was for her to be able to attend her three grandchildren’s weddings this year.

Survivors include her daughter: Kathryn (Rodney) Reinke, Shawano; two sons: Douglas Steenbock, Green Bay, and Daniel (Carrie) Steenbock, Appleton; six grandchildren, Joseph (Rebecca) Reinke, Clintonville, Mark (Brittany) Reinke, Shawano, Amy (Andrew) Hartman, Madison, and Brooklynn, Bethany and Clara Steenbock, all of Appleton; two sisters, Joan Klevesahl, Appleton, and Ruth Ann Buelow, Shawano; three sisters-in-law, Carol (Donald) Darm, Shawano, and Elverna Schwenke and Carol Steenbock, both of Clintonville; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; brother, Donald Schwenke; also numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Christian Burg officiating. Interment will follow at the Graceland Cemetery in Clintonville. Friends may call at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory in Clintonville from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the services.

Dale E. Groleau

Dale E. Groleau, 75, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, in the town of Seneca while hunting.

Dale was born on July 5, 1940, in Gladstone, Michigan, to the late O’Neal and Beatrice “Bea” (LeClaire) Groleau. On Dec. 1, 1979, in Shawano, he was united in marriage to Barbara Schuster Rades. He lived in Shawano for most of his life and worked for L.J. Sperberg Construction.

Dale was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, watching NASCAR, doing wood working and being an avid Packers fan.

Dale is survived by his wife, Barbara; seven children, Kim Schmeider, Renee (Rick) Oh, Lora Le (Darwin) Martin, Dale (special friend, Sheryle Boyde) Groleau, Danielle Groleau, Traci (Brad) Galleske and Brenda Moesch; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Oh, Jennifer Oh, Amanda Oh, Katie (Alex) Stulo, Cassandra (Dakota) Warren, Kellie and Matthew Schmeider, Angela and Michaela Martin, Hunter and Jasmine Galleske, Neeya Gueths, Amy and Andrea Moesch; seven great-grandchildren; as well as one brother, Gregg (Vern) Groleau; one sister, Bonnie (Larry) Sperberg; and his former wife, Karen (Popp) VanRyzin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son-in-law, Mike Schmeider; parents-in-law, Ray and Irene (Maltby) Schuster.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. and again at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Sara L. Rasmussen

Sara Lynn Rasmussen, 41, of Bonduel, passed away Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, in Milwaukee.

Sara was born on May 16, 1974, to Alfred and Merriel (Thiede) Niles in Beaver Dam. Sara graduated from Bowler High School. On June 5, 1999, Sara was united in marriage to Steve Rasmussen in Shawano. She had a big heart and was always there to help a friend or family member when needed. In her free time she loved camping and going to movies with her son, Walker. Her family was the most important thing in her life and she absolutely loved being a grandma.

Sara is survived by her husband, Steve; four sons, Justin (Tina) Rasmussen, of Krakow, and their children, Nate and Eli; Tyler Rasmussen, of Shawano, and his sons Aiden, Ruger and Parker; Kyle Niles, of Bonduel, and his son, Jason; and Walker Rasmussen, of Bonduel; her parents, Alfred and Merriel Niles, of Shawano; her siblings, Lori (Charlie Von Deck) Niles, of Clintonville, Brenda (Mena Bahig) Niles, of Fond du Lac, Scott (Tina) Niles, of Wittenberg, and Jeff (Christine) Niles, of Oshkosh; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donna and Eugene Rasmussen, of Bonduel; a sister-in-law, Judy (Mike) St. Louis, of Michigan; a brother-in-law, Tom (Phyliss) Rasmussen, of Plymouth; and a goddaughter, Sammi Jo Cronin. She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service for Sara will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at the Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 23, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Arthur L. Ward Sr.

Arthur L. Ward Sr., 87, of Gresham, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, in Shawano.

Arthur was born on May 7, 1928, in Nakina, North Carolina, to the late Arthur and Alice (Beech) Ward. He enlisted and served our country in the United States Coast Guard.

Arthur lived most of his life in the Gresham area, where he and his family lived on a farm. He worked nearby on a mink ranch and later in life he drove for a trucking company.

Arthur was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. He was a jokester, enjoyed working in the garden and deer hunting, and found it important to be respectful to others.

Arthur is survived by his children, Margaret (Gary) Eberhard Sr., of Shawano, Mary DuBois, of Shawano, Patricia (Dave) Adkins, of Gresham, Dennis Ward, of Shawano, James (Judy) Ward, of Shawano, Jeff (Gabriela) Ward, of Gresham, Charles (Marilyn) Ward, of Shawano, William (Andrea) Ward, of Gresham, and Arthur (Jody) Ward Jr., of Gresham; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Grace Williams, of North Carolina; as well as his former wife, Lucille (Ovans) Ward.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Military rites will be conducted by Gresham American Legion Post 390.

Anna M. Metzger

Anna Mary Metzger, 92, of Gresham, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at the ThedaCare Medical Center of Shawano.

Anna was born in Milwaukee on Oct. 12, 1923, to the late Leo S. and Marguerite (Fecht) Pross. On Jan. 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Delton George “Jack” Metzger at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Jack preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2008, on their 65th wedding anniversary.

Anna worked at A & P grocery store in Milwaukee until 1983, when she retired and moved to Gresham. Anna was a lover, maker and avid collector of teddy bears and enjoyed taking her bears to different groups to do “teddy bear talks.” She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, where she was a part of the Christian Mothers. She was integral in the inception of the Red Lake Association and a member for many years. Anna was also a former member of the Milwaukee Eagles Auxiliary, the Shawano Christian Woman’s Club and the Shawano Medical Center Auxiliary, where she held many offices.

Anna is survived by her children, Katherine A. (Conrad) Pulver, of Shawano, Mary P. (Robert) Gray, of New Franken, William A. (Denise) Metzger, of Milwaukee, and Elizabeth A. (Tim) Huntington, of Gresham; eight grandchildren, Kim (Chuck) Mehlhorn, Shawn (Cindy) Pulver, Keith (Heather) Gray, Monica Gray, Mindy (Steve) West, William (Laura Miller) Metzger, Timothy (Rachel) Huntington and Pamela Huntington; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, and her sister, Marge (Charles) Smith.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano Auxiliary.

Mary K. Kupsky

Mary K. Kupsky, 60, of the town of Belle Plaine, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2015, in Embarrass.

Mary was born on Feb. 4, 1955, in Shawano to the late Henry and Esther (Bendickson) Pludeman. On Aug. 24, 1974, in Bonduel, Mary was united in marriage to Michael Kupsky. Michael preceded her in death in 2000. She lived in Shawano/Bonduel all of her life and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Mary enjoyed doing genealogy, restoring the old farmhouse, and provided home care assistance to several people so they could stay in their home.

Mary is survived by her brother and sisters, Elaine Thomas, of Menasha, Leon Pludeman, of Bonduel, and Janet Peotter, of Seymour; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Carol (Walt) Matzek, of Prescott, Susan Kupsky, of Green Bay, Bill (Katherine) Kupsky, of Clintonville, and Mary Kupsky, of Gresham, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael, her parents, and brothers-in-law, Stephen Kupsky, Dave Peotter and Dick Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lunds with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Viola Raeder

Viola Raeder, 86, passed away peacefully at Appleton Medical Center on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, with her family by her side.

She was born on Oct. 30, 1928, in Shawano to the late Dewey and Effie (Lake) Norton. Viola was a resident of Shawano until 1982, when she moved to Henderson, Nevada. She returned to Neenah in 2008. She was very strong in her faith, and her greatest joy was spending time with all her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her four “V’s,” daughters, Victoria (Gary) Forrest, Veronica (Glen) Pilgreen, Valerie (Scott) Coenen and Virginia (Frank) Beattie. She is further survived by her beloved grandchildren, Bryan (Jenny) Schmidt, Dean (Brenda) Schmidt, Aaron (Shawn) Schmidt, Cyndi (Bill) Aden, Dorothy (James) Murray, Kalla (Cory) Dougherty, Amy (Stephen) DeWitt and Nicole (Gabe) Brickler. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Rita Norton, of Florida; in addition to many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including her very special friend, Lola Wheat, of Nevada.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Effie Norton; her former husband, Victor Reader; siblings, Dewey Norton and Sadie Thompson; and her brother-in-law, William Thompson.

A celebration of Viola’s life will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 140 S. Green Bay Road, Neenah, with service to follow. The Rev. James A Wilson will officiate.

John W. Lesatz

On Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, John Wayne Lesatz died after a six-month long, painful battle

with leukemia, surrounded by his children. He was born in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on

May 2, 1943.

John attended Engadine High School, where he lettered in baseball all four years. At the age of

17, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. John was a proud veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and an

even prouder United States Marine. While on duty in Japan, John was selected to play on an All-

Marine All-Star baseball team. His team beat the Japanese All Stars, and he was always very

proud of that fact. John’s never ending love of baseball was evident by the fact he was a lifelong

Braves fan (Milwaukee and Atlanta). Even during his illness, John’s fondness of baseball

remained. He was very proud to have attended his grandson, Beaux’s, state championship

baseball game this past spring.

John is survived by his son, Mark Wayne, and wife, Kathleen, granddaughters, MariJo and

Elizabeth; his son, John Matthew and wife, Wendy, granddaughter, Alyssa, grandsons, Cory and

John Matthew “Jr.”; his daughter and caretaker, Michelle Lynne Jacques, and husband, Robert

Jacques, grandson, Alexander John “AJ” Hamilton and his special friend, Erin Baker, grandson,

Beaux Myers, and stepgranddaughter, Brianna (Andy) Yahnke; and his youngest son, Travis John.

He is further survived by his brother, Leon Lesatz, and his family; his sister, Mary Domanski, and

her family; his brother’s widow, Jeri Lesatz, and her family; his brother, Dick Lesatz, and his

family; and his sister, Sandra Ketcher, and her family. John is also survived by Mark, Matt and

Michelle’s mother, Mary Frances; and Travis’ mother, Dawn Marie.

John was preceded in death by his father, John Frank Lesatz; his mother, Eleanor Lesatz; an

infant brother, George; and his brother and best friend, Robert Lesatz.

Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521, Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 3-8 p.m.

Friday. Military honors will take place at 6 p.m.

John’s final wishes were to be cremated and his remains flown to Michigan by his youngest son,

Travis John. He will be interned in Engadine, Michigan.

LaVerna Splinter

LaVerna Splinter, 100, of Tilleda, died on Oct. 20, 2015. She was born in Bowler, the town of Almon, on Aug. 4, 1915, the daughter of the late Fred and Tillie (Nordwig) Kessen. She spent her early years in the Bowler area and attended the Bowler school and Shawano High School.

LaVerna worked for several years at Carley’s Gamble store in Bowler until her marriage. On May 27, 1936, she was united in marriage to Raymond Hoffman, and they made their home in Gresham. Her husband, Raymond, died on Feb. 21, 1962. While living in Gresham, LaVerna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid and the church choir. For several years she worked at the D.A. Schmidt Store in Gresham. Later, she worked at the Woodland restaurant, retiring in 1972.

On June 19, 1965, LaVerna was married to Earl Splinter at Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham by Pastor M. Clausen. Earl died on March 10, 2004. They built their home in Tilleda and she continued to live there until the present time. She helped her husband in the maple syrup production and always enjoyed being out in the woods. They were owners of Splinter Paint and Supply until retiring in 1990.

LaVerna loved to work in the garden and enjoyed raising flowers. She also enjoyed playing cards, dancing and reading. She and her husband attended many polka dances and enjoyed listening to polka music. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda, the Ladies ELCW, choir, served on the church council and was a member of the Tilleda Advancement Club since 1965.

LaVerna is survived by her children, Robert Hoffman, of Appleton, and Karla Kay (Harvey) Spreeman, of Pulaski; nine grandchildren, Brian and Curt Hoffman, Todd, David, Jeff, Chad and Stacy Spreeman, Lisa Hartjes and Kathy Ullmer; 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Raymond Hoffman and Earl Splinter; her daughter-in-law, Mary Hoffman; her parents; two brothers, Kermit and Harris Kessen; two sisters-in-law, Nellie and Elizabeth Kessen; as well as two nephews, Jeff and James Kessen.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda with Lay Minister Lois Graper officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Kathy L. Janusiak

Kathy Lynn Janusiak, 63, of Bonduel, passed away on Oct. 19, 2015, at her home, with family by her side, after a courageous eight-month battle with cancer.

Kathy was born on Oct, 17, 1952, to Trudy (Johnson) Poytinger and the late Bob Poytinger in Milwaukee. She was united in marriage to Scott Janusiak on Aug. 29, 1986, in Clearwater, Florida.

Kathy had an appreciation for nature like no other. She loved to spend time outside, whether it was tending her gardens, fishing or just sitting on the porch, reading a book and watching the horses graze in the field. She had a heart of gold and always put others before herself. She was always willing to help out in any way possible. Kathy’s true passion was animals, and her connection with them was undeniable.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Scott; her mother, Trudy (Gene) Supernor; two daughters, Jen Poytinger, of Colorado, and Nicole Janusiak and her daughter, Hailey, of Shawano; two stepsons, Eric (Angie) Feldmann, of Green Bay, and Jason Janusiak, and his son, Maverick, of Milwaukee; her sister, Linda (Roy) Schultz, of Milwaukee; and Addy, who was like a granddaughter to Kathy. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Bob Poytinger.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Swedberg-Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
