Lois A. Warrington

Lois A. Warrington, 81, of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, in Shawano.

Lois was born in Keshena on March 11, 1934 to the late George and Sarah (Boyd) Warrington. She lived in Chicago for 30 years, returning to Keshena in 1999. Lois enjoyed drawing, but mostly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lois is survived by six children, Barbara Jersey, Carol Moffit, Kevin Boyd, Jill Rittenhouse, Bonnie Rittenhouse and Shannon Warrington; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including Warren, Meredith, Matthew, Jennie, Portia, Shantel, William, Rebecca and Stanley; and one sister, Rosemund Hoffman, of Gresham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Mark and David Rittenhouse; two daughters, Rebecca and Roberta Weso; 10 brothers and sisters, Kenneth Warrington, Glen Warrington, Gloria Warrington, Constance Warrington, Burton Warrington, Maxine Hoffman, Portia Warrington, Georgia Pastorino, Royale Warrington and Althea Harrington.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held at the Cheryl Warrington residence, W2628 Chief Josette, in the Warrington Addition from 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, until Monday when the procession leaves for the church.

Gregg A. Elertson

Gregg Alan Elertson, 50, of Lunds, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, in Outagamie County.

Gregg was born in Neenah on Nov. 24, 1964, to Sarah (Bain) Elertson and the late Harold Elertson. Gregg went to school in Winneconne. On Oct. 16, 1999, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Rudesill at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Gregg was a great storyteller and a champion sheephead player, and loved shooting pool. He shot pool for CloverLeaf Lakes for 15 years before shooting for the Lunds Pool League. He was an avid Packers fan and tried to attend every Packers-Bears game. In his free time, he enjoyed bow hunting and fishing. Gregg had a passion for motorcycles and classic cars, and loved nothing more than going for a ride.

Gregg is survived by his daughter, Rhiannon Elertson; mother, Sarah Elertson; his sisters and brother, Bonnie (Darren) Wegner, of Fremont, Barbara (Doug) Diemel, of Leeman, and Donald (Lisa) Elertson, of Readfield; his former wife, Cheryl, of Clintonville; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Burial will be in the Jerusalem Cemetery in Lunds. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Angeline S. Neumeier

Angeline Sophia Neumeier, 92, of Gresham, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, in Appleton.

Angeline was born in Maple Grove on Oct. 6, 1922, to the late Stanley and Elizabeth (Baranczyk) Lech. On Oct. 12, 1940, Angeline was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Neumeier in Gresham. Together, they raised a family of three boys and two girls. Lawrence preceded her in death on June 30, 1994.

Angeline loved gardening, crocheting, and shopping trips because she got to take a ride on the mini bus. She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church and the Altar Society, and cooked funeral meals for many years. She especially loved family get-togethers.

Angeline is survived by four children, Frances (Jack) Van Lanen, of Sturgeon Bay, Darla (Bill) Gasser, of Oconto Falls, James (Candy) Neumeier, of Berlin, and Dan (special friend, Kathleen Boss/VeerHusen) Neumeier, of Lodi; nine grandchildren, Laurie (Tom) Olson, Floyd (Linda) Gasser, Sarah (Jake) Nelson, Joe (special friend, Sara) Gasser, Mike (Alisa) Neumeier, Jennifer (special friend, Bart) Neumeier, Becky (friend, Kevin) Jensen, Kirsten (Josh) Levin and Brook Pari; four great-grandchildren, Evan Olson, Sydney Olson, Trevor Levin, Wesley Levin, and one on the way. She is further survived by her sister, Evelyn Galiej, of Elburn, Illinois, as well as other relatives and friends.

She was preceded by her husband of 53 years, Lawrence Neumeier; son, David Neumeier, as a child; her parents; her brothers and sisters, Lucille Gartman, Helen Aniol, Irene Neumeier, Julie Krystek and Roger Lech.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, at the church from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

David E. Kohn Sr.

David E. Kohn Sr., 72, Tigerton, died on Friday, Sept. 18, 2015, at his home.

He was born on May 28, 1943, in Shawano, the son of the late Ervin and Frieda (Ploeger) Kohn.

On June 28, 1970, David was united in marriage to Lauretta Miller in Wittenberg. She preceded him in death on Sept. 17, 2006.

David was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was employed at the Tigerton Lumber Company for many years until his retirement. David enjoyed hunting, fishing and an occasional trip to the casino. He loved sitting on his deck while watching the deer and turkeys. He also enjoyed old Western television shows and Sunday morning polkas. Most important to David was the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandy (Mike Baker) Erickson; two sons, Scott (Amy Jaeger) Kohn and David Kohn Jr.; granddaughters, Caytlin Kohn, Aleyna Kohn, Makayla Jaeger and Aleeshya Jaeger; grandsons, Maximus Kohn and Cian Jaeger; and one sister, Marion (Ed) Hull.

David was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a sister, Judy Hirt; and two brothers, Allan and Jay.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Sandra L. Peters

Sandra L. Peters, “Young She-Bear,” 69, of Keshena, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, in Shawano.

Sandra was born in Chicago on Dec. 23, 1945, to the late Joseph Peters and Frances Tourtillott. She loved riding through the Menominee Reservation, going to the casino and all holidays. Sandra was like a mom to her sisters, nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Sandra is survived by two brothers, Michael and Steven Peters; four sisters, Rogerine (Gerhardt) Wychesit, April (Allen) Dodge, Dawn Lawe and Geraldine Skenandore. She is further survived by her aunties, Patsy Tourtillott, Sylvia “Sibby” (Richard) Dodge and Olga (Jim) Doran, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Peters and Frances (Tourtillott) Lawe, and two sisters, Edwina Waubanascum and Leah Sanchez.

Traditional services will be held at the family residence, N466 Chief Souligney Road, Warrington Addition, from noon on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, until 2 p.m. Monday. A Native American Church Devotional Service will be held at the house on Sunday at 7 p.m. with Chris Roth officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Keshena.

Martin J. Beversdorf

Martin J. Beversdorf, 45, of Mundelein, Illinois, entered from death to life and found peace in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sept. 30, 2015, after a courageous battle against sinonasal cancer. He was born on Nov. 12, 1969, in Shawano, and was a loving father and devoted husband.

Surviving are his wife of 17 years, Katarina (Teguh); his son, Caleb; grandmother, Concordia; parents, James and Bonnie; brothers, Michael and Jaana (Aronen), Matthew and Elizabeth (Hagen), Melvin and Jaclyn (Brook); and many beloved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, family and friends.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 24480 N. Old McHenry Road, Hawthorn Woods, Illinois. Interment will be in St. Matthew Cemetery with a luncheon afterward.

Gerald D. Dehn

Gerald D. Dehn, 78, of Bonduel, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, after a seven-month battle with leukemia. He was at home surrounded by his family.

Gerald was born in the town of Hartland on July 20, 1937, to the late Paul and Linda (Krueger) Dehn. He attended school at Graf Country School until the sixth grade, and then attended Bonduel Elementary and Bonduel High School, graduating in 1956.

On July 23, 1960, Gerald was united in marriage to Betty Luepke at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel. He helped his dad farm before working for Bleick’s Creamery, Laney Cheese and Beatrice Cheese as a milk hauler. In 1983, he bought his own truck and route, which became Dehn’s Milk Hauling Inc. He enjoyed visiting with all the farmers and became friends with all their dogs. On June 30, 2002, he sold the truck and route and retired.

Gerald was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel, served as an elder for six years, a trustee for six years, on the finance and stewardship committees for three years, and helped to clean the church and mow the lawn.

He had a love for bowling, and bowled for 50 years. Gerald went to the national bowling tournament for 13 years and, on Oct. 19, 1997, was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was the secretary of the commercial league for four years and sponsored many bowling teams. Gerald was also a member of the Bonduel Lions Club and the Bonduel Broncos baseball team, for which he kept score for 10 years. He enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers, Badgers and NASCAR, listening to polka music, and watching and feeding the birds. Most of all, he loved watching his grandchildren play sports and spending time with them.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Betty; their children, Sherrie (Steve) Peterson and Scott (Mari) Dehn; five grandchildren, Amanda (fiancé, Ryan Krause) Gipp, Jared (friend, Christi Krueger) Gipp, Brooks Dehn, Katie (Ken) Kadonsky, and Megan (friend, Ryan Koch) Peterson; one great-grandson, Jameson Kadonsky; his sister, Carol (Robert) Luepke; brother-in-law, Larry (Jane) Luepke; sisters-in-law, Audrey (Roger) Wood, Karen (Dennis) Stoltenow, Lana (Steve) Reinke; and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Linda; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred and Violet Luepke; and his sister-in-law, Rochelle (Sally) Luepke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bonduel with the Rev. Mark Palmer and the Rev. Timothy Shoup officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at the church from 4-8 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

A special thank you to the outpatient care unit at Shawano Medical Center, the oncology department and the seventh-floor care unit at AMC.

Lorraine M. Boldig

Lorraine M. Boldig, 88, town of Morris, passed away peacefully at Homme Home for Aging, Wittenberg, on Sept. 29, 2015. She was born in the town of Morris to Bert and Gladys Feavel on Feb. 14, 1927.

Lorraine was married to Frederick Boldig on May 10, 1952. They remained married until Frederick’s passing on July 3, 1965.

Lorraine and Frederick had seven children who still survive her. Survivors include Gordon (Sally) Boldig, town of Morris, Michael Boldig, Antigo, Patricia Boldig, Wittenberg, David (Glenda) Boldig, town of Morris, Gary (Sheila) Boldig, Elderon, Donald (Brenda) Boldig, Tilleda, and Marsha (Jeff) Provoast, Tigerton; grandchildren, Kregg (Jenn) Boldig, Kurt (Sarah) Boldig, Kelsey (Adam) Jacobs, Alison Boldig, Melissa (John) Besaw, Amy (Leroy) Ellis, Justin (Melissa) Beckwith, Mason Boldig, Danielle (Matt) Zdroik, Megan Boldig, Wade (Korinne) Provoast, and Patrick Provoast; great-grandchildren, Kane, Cody, Cole, Abby, Chloe, Maddox, Joaquin, Hailey, Lainee, Sofia and Jonathan; her sister, Arlene Johnson, and family; and sister-in-law, Shirley Feavel, and family.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick; parents, Bert and Gladys; baby girl in infancy; grandson, Matthew; brother, Donalcq Feavel; brother-in-law, Charlie Johnson; and niece, Cathy Johnson.

Lorraine worked for many years at Fred Boldig and Sons Sawmill and in later years operated the L&N Gift Shop in Bowler/Tigerton. She also worked as a correspondent for the Wittenberg Enterprise over the years reporting on Morris news and events. Lorraine can be remembered for the famous quote “lunch was served and a good time was had by all.” She enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports throughout the years. Lorraine especially loved watching and listening to the Milwaukee Brewers. She was an active crafter, creating beautiful knitting and crocheting projects enjoyed by family and friends.

Lorraine will most be remembered for her love for her family and how much she enjoyed family cookouts and gatherings. Lorraine was a member of the Immanuel Women of Faith and lifetime member of the Court Whist Club and Homemakers Club.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Morris. Friends and family can gather to share memories of Lorraine and her life from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., with burial and luncheon following.

Elizabeth L. Dorn

Elizabeth “Libby” Leigh Dorn, 58, of Shawano, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 5, 2015, at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. She was born in Ohio on Dec. 20, 1956, daughter of the late Harold and Jane Steele.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Green Bay.

Libby attended Dublin High School, The Ohio State University and St. Norbert College. She was currently employed as the executive director at Trees for Tomorrow Inc. and fields director at Brown County UW-Extension, adjunct instructor at Fox Valley Technical, national training specialist at University of Wisconsin-Extension, and project manager/project liaison at University of Wisconsin-Extension.

Libby was director out at Fallen Timbers Environmental Center for 25 years. She loved teaching kids and adults about the environment. She enjoyed kayaking, camping, hiking, being outdoors, traveling. She enjoyed cheering on the Ohio Buckeyes and the Green Bay Packers. Always smiling and seeing only the good in everyone, she was one of the kindest people you’d ever meet.

Libby especially enjoyed spending time with her boyfriend, Mark, her two dogs, Chase and Jethro, and her cat, Kitten. Also time spent with her daughter, Athena, and son-in-law, Jake.

She is survived by her daughter, Athena (Jacob) Shepard; special friend, Mark Martin, and his children, Bettina and Shaun; sister, Mary (Tom) Callahan; nephews, Jon, Tim and Tony Callahan; sister-in-law, Rita Steele and her children; and ex-husband, Tom Dorn.

Libby is preceded in death by her brother, Rob Steele, and in-laws, Ruth and Robert Dorn.

Friends may call at First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe St., Green Bay, on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, from 1 p.m. until services at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dave Wilkinson officiating.

Lori A. Helms

Lori Ann Helms (Figlinski), 45, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015. She was born in Milwaukee on Aug. 16, 1970, daughter of Frank and late Joan (Beyer) Figlinski.

On Sept. 21, 1991, Lori married her best friend, Michael Helms, and together they had four children: Ashley (Tyler), Caleb, Whitney (Joseph) and Gabriel.

Lori is also survived by her three grandchildren: Emilio, Dominick and Gunner; her father, Frank Figlinski; her sisters, Lynn (Russ) Allen and Sherry (Todd) Rusch; and several nieces, a nephew and many special friends.

Lori was preceded in death by her mother, Joan (Beyer) Figlinski; her best friend and father of her children, Michael Helms; Grandma Margaret Figlinski; Aunt Lu Schultz and Uncle Robert Figlinski Sr.

Lori is reunited with her soul mate and all the loved ones in Heaven. She will truly be missed and will always and forever remain in our hearts.

Vernel Lee “Vern” High, 70, of Keshena, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, in Appleton.

Vern was born in Keshena, on June 4, 1945, to the late Alice Peters. He was a contractor in home building, and loved his job. Vern enjoyed nothing better than a good day of hard work.

Vern is survived by his good friend, Betty Kohel; his children, Vernal High, Vaughn High, Kurt Pocan and Veron High; Betty’s children, whom he helped raise, Denelle, Lillian, Ira, John and Sky; numerous grandchildren, and nieces, and nephews, including, Leland, Rudy, Doreen and Tabitha.

He was preceded in death by his mom; one sister, Mabel “Peaches” Dickie; and four brothers, John “Biskit” Peters, Tommy Peters, Joseph “Duke” Peters and Alvin Peters.

A visitation will be held at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, from 12-3 p.m.

Arline L. Helms

Arline L. Helms, 91, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015, at Pine Manor Healthcare Center, Embarrass.

The former Arline Lillian Kersten was born on Feb. 16, 1924, on the Hauschultz homestead in the town of Dupont, Waupaca County, to Emil and Olga (Hauschultz) Kersten. She attended the Sunrise School for her elementary education. She graduated from Marion High School in just 3½ years and then continued her education by taking college correspondence courses. Shortly after graduation, Arline took a job with FWD Corporation in Clintonville. She worked for two years first as a secretary and then served as a bookkeeper for the following 28 years of her time at the drive. Besides her full-time job, Arline also did all the bookkeeping for her husband’s business, Norman’s Repair Shop, and her parents’ farm.

Arline met her husband, Norman Helms, at a dance at the Caroline Ballroom when he came home from serving overseas during World War II. They were married on May 18, 1946, and the couple lived on the home farm where Norman also ran his repair shop. He fixed cars, trucks, tractors and about anything else that clients brought in. Norman died of a heart attack on March 4, 1985.

Arline was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Congregation in Marion. She was baptized on April 1, 1924, and confirmed on April 10, 1938. She was a member of the Ladies Aide (ELCW) and was involved with the Altar Guild, flower committee, worked at the fall suppers, and helped with many other projects over the years.

No matter what type of club or group that she joined, Arline always took an active role. She had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 63 years, holding various offices at both the local and county level, including president, secretary and, most recently, historian. She also was instrumental in organizing the Marion CB Club, where she held the offices of president and secretary/treasurer.

In 1993, she decided to downsize, sold the farm and moved into an apartment in Marion. She became very active at the Marion Senior Center, involving herself by serving meals, organizing their card parties, planning the menus and calling bingo. In 2006, she settled at Pine Manor Healthcare Center. She remained active by taking part in all the available activities, folding towels, attending church services and Bible study, playing bingo and other games, baking and listening to the musical entertainers that came to the nursing home. Her latest accomplishment was being named resident council president at Pine Manor.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Wynella (Eugene) Barnick, Joyce Helms and Florence Helms, all of Marion. There is one brother-in-law, Allen Johnson, of Tigerton; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Arline has a good friend who is like a daughter to her, Brenda (Bruce) Westfahl, of Clintonville. Arline is further survived by some card-playing buddies, Joe and Sandy Mass, and special friends Mary Jolin and Ed and Sue Wudstrack.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; three sisters-in-law, Elvera Much, Betty Johnson and Joyce Streicher; and five brothers-in-law, Harold Helms, Lloyd Helms, Martin Much, Lowell Haufe and Ed Streicher.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Marion. The Rev. Bradley Dokken will officiate, and burial will follow at Roseland Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

The Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Marion, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church Roof Fund or to the activity department at Pine Manor, care of Mary Jolin.

The family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff at Pine Manor for years of tender loving care always given to Arline.

Marcella F. Palmer

Marcella F. “Sally” Palmer, 90, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, at her home, joining her heavenly family.

Sally was born on May 16, 1925, in the town of Green Valley, a daughter of the late Emil and Freda (Gipp) Wolfgram. She spent her early childhood in Gillett, then moved to Shawano, graduating from Shawano High School. In 1943, she passed a civil service test and moved to Chicago to work in the Army War Bond Office. In 1945, she was united in marriage to Bruce Palmer. He preceded her in death in 1970. Sally then worked as an administrative secretary in the Shawano County Zoning Office for 20 years, retiring in 1990.

Sally loved to play bridge and Scrabble. She enjoyed traveling with her dear friend, Bill Skar. They traveled the United States from east to west, including Alaska and Hawaii. They also visited South America, Canada, Nova Scotia, Germany,and the Holy Land. After all that travel, Sally was always happy to return to Shawano to be near her loving family.

She is survived by her sons, Dan (Barbara) Palmer, Steve (Karen) Palmer, Brian (Debbie) Palmer; seven grandchildren, Tony, Mark, Jeff, Kaitlin, Brian and Brandon Palmer, and Kyle Young; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her dear sister, Gloria Wolfgram Tate; and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce; her brother, Leo Wolfgram; her sister-in-law, Florence Wolfgram; and her brother-in-law, Donald Tate.

A memorial service for Sally Palmer will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Shawano. Pastor Marty Black will officiate.

Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. Inurnment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name are preferred for Peace United Church of Christ.

Katherine Elizabeth “Kathy” Velte, 62, of Shawano, died on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015. Born on Sept. 17, 1953, in Appleton, she is the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Doris M. (Nagel) Velte.

Kathy was born developmentally disabled and non-verbal; her life had many challenges and she proved to be a true survivor. She moved many places in her younger years, but called Shawano her home for the past 40 years. For the last eight years, Kathy was shown exemplary care in the adult family home on Wescott Avenue. Her personality blossomed and she was truly happy there. She was an “Angel on Earth” with a sweet, innocent spirit.

Kathy is survived by her brothers and sister, Christopher (Shirley) Velte, of Hortonville, Barb (Dale) Failor, of Ripon, John (Valerie) Velte, of North Carolina; three nieces, Jessica (Cody) Davis, of North Carolina, Susan (John) Bruhin, of West Virginia, and Ellen K. Velte, of North Carolina.

A memorial service for Kathy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be directed to Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.

Kathy’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the many, many people who helped to care for Kathy throughout her 62 years, especially the last eight years at the former Bowan House, now known as Wescott Place. Special thanks to Dr. Beth Gillis, Dorothy Bowan, Kimmery Weber, Kay Shelby-Norman and the late Jolene Bowan.

Marisa J. Cardish Justin Cardish

Marisa J. Cardish, 37, and her newborn son, Justin, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, in Green Bay.

Marisa was born in Shawano on June 4, 1978, to the late Wesley J. and Dotty (Cornelius) Cardish. She lived on the Stockbridge Munsee Reservation until the age of 14 before moving to Green Bay. Marisa was a Packers fan and a lacrosse fan, enjoyed playing basketball and volleyball, and was baptized a member of the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness. She enjoyed being an auntie.

Marisa is survived by her three children, Jayden, Jaidalynn and Jazlin; her sisters and brother, Venessa (John Powless III) Cardish, Trisha Cardish, Jonathon Lutz and Erica Hartjes.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Teila Grimes; and her grandparents, Norrin and Lois Cornelius.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness in Bowler with the Rev. Amy Meyer and Jon Schedler officiating. Burial will be in the Stockbridge Indian Burial Grounds. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Virginia Schmidt

Virginia “Ginny” Schmidt, 72, of Tigerton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at her home.

The former Virginia Elizabeth McKenna was born on Sept. 2, 1943, in Shawano to Stephen and Elizabeth (Hoffmier) McKenna. After graduating from Shawano High School in 1962, she worked for a while as a nanny in the Shawano area. Ginny moved to Milwaukee and worked for a short time at a George Webb restaurant. While working as a cook there, she met her husband, Irvin H. Schmidt. Ginny and Irv were united in marriage on Dec. 19, 1964, at the Milwaukee courthouse. In 1977 she began working for a children’s day care service in the Milwaukee area. By 1989 she started running her own day care business out of her home.

The couple settled in Tigerton in 2004, and Ginny kept busy with many things. For just over three years she taught water aerobics at the aquatic center in Wittenberg. She was also an active member at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Morris, helping out with the Ladies Aid whenever possible. Her other interests included bowling, working in the yard, taking in all sorts of pets, and watching the Packers and Brewers play. Ginny was famous for her fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies and her delicious date cake. She loved her family and often opened her home to relatives and friends. Ginny was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a proud grandmother.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Irv, and three children, Irvin (Renaee) Schmidt Jr., of Fremont, Stephanie (Bryan) Herro, of Waupaca, and Roy Schmidt, of Houston, Texas. There are four grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Fietzer, of Fremont, Kayla Anderson, of Waukesha, U.S. Marine Hunter Anderson, of North Carolina, and Cort Schmidt, of Houston, Texas. There are two great-grandchildren, Landon and Easton Fietzer. There are two brothers, Edward (Diane) McKenna, of Green Bay, and Lloyd (special friend Jenn) McKenna, of Appleton; and one sister, Maxine (John) Kallies, of Shawano. There are three stepsisters, Janice Wolf, of Appleton, Barbara Travis, of New London, and Patti Lawrence, of Shawano; and three stepbrothers, Stephen McKenna Jr., of Amherst, Robert McKenna, of Shawano, and Russell (Janice) McKenna, of Tomah. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roy, and an infant brother.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, town of Morris. Pastor John Hielsberg will officiate, and inurnment will be at a later date in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Jacob J. Maskewit Sr.

Jacob Jerome Maskewit Sr., 49, of Keshena, was called to the spirit world on Oct. 10, 2015, in Green Bay, at Bellin Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Jacob suffered with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disease that attacks the nervous system. He was born on Nov. 23, 1965, in Antigo, the son of Carl J. “Chummy” Maskewit Sr. and the late Sharon (Winneshiek) Maskewit. As a young man, Jake called Door County his home, until he moved to the Menominee Indian Reservation, spending most of his life in the Keshena area. Jake was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, shanging, walking, watching the Packers and spending quality time with his great-nieces and great-nephews. In his younger years, he boxed for the Menominee Tribal Police Boxing Club, appearing in the National Geographic magazine in August 1974. He appeared in a PBS film that showed his skills of trapping with his father and brother.

Jake took pride in taking care of his sister, Linda. Linda quoting Jake, “I love you my sister. Good night and see you in the morning.” This was said every evening and at daylight. “Good morning, my sister” — day to day I will carry his greetings of love.

Jacob will be sadly missed by his family and friends, including his son, Jacob J. (Maskewit) Zhuckkahosee, of Florida; his daughter, Angel Tomow, of Shawano; his father, Carl Sr., of Keshena; his sisters, Linda (Raphael Sr.) Boivin and Mary (Daniel) Tomow, both of Keshena, and Sharon Maskewit, of South Dakota; his brothers, Dale (Karen) Boivin Jr., John Sr. and Mitchell (Elizabeth) Maskewit III, all of Keshena; nieces and nephews, John Maskewit Jr., Janice, Jody (special friend Earl Wayka), Kandice (Alan), Vivianne, Dale III, Joy (special friend Jeremy Peters) Kitson, Danielle (special friend Mitchell Bailey) Tomow, Dorla, Toni, Melisa, and Adam; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Jade, Natalie Aubri, Raphael Jr. (special friend, Dakota Madosh), Madeline, Joseph, Sonny, Leila, DeJa, Jordyn, Kaiden, and Daniel Tomow Jr. He is further survived by a great-great-niece, Lyneesa Mendez; cousins, Myrtle (Steve) Kitson and John A. Boyd, III, whom he called “Brother”; aunts and uncles, Wendell “Windy” Corn, Donald “Buddy” Maskewit, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Delores Edgeton, Kathleen Sammons, Cynthia (Theodore) Gauthier, Dorothy (Joseph) Smith, and his most admired aunt, Laura Maskewit; as well as his special, dear friend, Valarie (AKA Big Kahuna) Waupoose, LOL.

Jacob was preceded in death by his wife, Debra; his daughter, Melissa Jane; his mother, Sharon (Winneshiek) Maskewit; and one brother, Carl Jonson Maskewit Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Joel Jores officiating. Visitation will be at the Carl Maskewit Sr. residence, N276 Max Martin Road, in Keshena from noon Monday until the procession leaves for the funeral home on Thursday. There will be a parish wake service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Peggy A. Buckbee

Peggy Ann Buckbee, 60, of Clintonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015, in Neenah from a recurrence of cancer.

Peggy was born in Shawano on May 29, 1955, to Douglas and Joyce (Hoffman) Goers. On Oct. 26, 1974, in Shawano, she was united in marriage to Chuck Buckbee. She lived in the Shawano area all her life.

Peggy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, enjoyed trips to Canada with family, gardening, cooking and canning. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Peggy is survived by her husband, Chuck; their son, Shane (Leslie) Buckbee, of Shawano; two grandchildren, Braxton and Miley; her parents, Doug and Joyce Goers, of Shawano; as well as one sister, Tami (Fred) DeKeyser, of Shawano.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano with the Rev. Luke Ferris officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 16, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 4-7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
