Dorothy Greiert passed away on Nov. 13, 2015, in Shawano. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Paul and Mary Tuttle on April 24, 1923. She was born in Geddes, South Dakota, where she lived until her high school years. Then her family moved to Benson, Minnesota.

Dorothy had photography as her hobby, which eventually became her first real job in a portrait studio. She also loved music passionately, which included singing in a 10-piece dance band, singing in the church choir, and singing in the Madison Symphony chorus when she eventually moved to Madison. Her love of music remained in her life and carried over into the lives of her children.

In 1945, Dorothy met and married Walter Greiert after which they moved from Minnesota to Green Bay, and then onto Madison. They were blessed with four children and one stepdaughter. The children were Steve, John, Colleen, Mary and Marlene. Later, after the children were grown up and went on with their lives, the grandchildren began to arrive — eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to date. Dorothy and her husband, Walt, loved and enjoyed all of the activities the whole family experienced.

In 1968, Dorothy decided to go back to work and became a tour guide for Hemispheric Tours, Hello America tours, and tours for Burkhalter Travel. She traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Canada, Costa Rica and the Panama Canal, but mostly tours in our beautiful homeland of the USA. She also composed a two-hour bus tour of Madison for visitors who came to Madison. The tours were available through the Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Singing in the Bethel Lutheran church choir and volunteer work at the church kept her very busy. She worked at the food pantry, helped the homeless people and served as chairwoman of the Bethel Lutheran Church Women for two years. Dorothy and Walter enjoyed golf, boating, dancing, singing together, and cheering for the Badger and Green Bay Packer football teams.

When her husband passed away in 2002, she sold their home and moved to an independent living apartment in Middleton. Later, in 2009, she moved to Shawano to be near some of her family. She lived there until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, several aunts and uncles, and cousins.

Survivors include her children, Steve, John, Colleen, Mary and Marlene; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; dear Jennifer Greiert; and many good friends.

Dorothy loved the Lord and faithfully followed His will throughout her life.

Friends may join the family for a visitation at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave., Madison, on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will take place at 11 a.m., and Dorothy will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Willy D. “Bill” Baum, 76, of Florida, formerly of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015.

Willy was born in Shawano on June 19, 1939, to the late Willy O. and Ethel (Donaldson) Baum. He was raised and went to high school in Bowler from 1953-1957. While in school, he served as president of his class and on the student council, was part of Badger Boys State and graduated as class salutatorian. In 1962, Willy was inducted into the United States Army and served our country until 1965. After his discharge, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 1967 and his Masters of Arts from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 1969.

Willy was later appointed a foreign service officer, a consular officer, and a secretary in the diplomatic service of the United States of America by President Ronald Reagan. He received numerous awards from the governments of America, Korea, Philippines and Thailand, as well as from private organizations such as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and CARE (Cooperative for American Relief Everywhere). He traveled to every continent, and met presidents, prime ministers, princes and people — wonderful, wonderful people.

Willy had a strong belief that some of the greatest words in the English language are peace, love, tolerance and understanding. He believed that Jesus gave the perfect commandment for all time: love thy neighbor as thyself and do onto others as you would have them do onto you. He strongly believed that if we could bring ourselves to live by that one command, war, poverty, injustice and most other miseries of the world would disappear.

Willy was a kind, generous and loyal man who touched many lives. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Willy is survived by his children, Willy C. Baum, of Springfield, Virginia, and Kathryn Baum (partner Sara Roer), of Brooklyn, New York; and one brother, Bruce O. Baum, of Shawano.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Clifford Kessen officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Shawano American Legion Post 117, with a spring burial in Union Cemetery in Tigerton. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Fund at www.uwosh.edu/uwofund. The UW-Oshkosh Fund helps students succeed by providing funds for scholarships and employment opportunities.
