John David Hart, M.D., passed away Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015, after a six-year struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

John was born in Sac City, Iowa, to the late William and Erin (Cooney) Hart. He was raised in Hopkinton, Iowa. In 1962, he graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. On Aug. 8, 1964, John was united in marriage to Donna Stoughton in Farley, Iowa. In 1967, John graduated from the University of Iowa School of Medicine. John worked as a preceptor for the University of Wisconsin Medical School, mentoring senior medical school students. He was a lifelong runner, participating in four marathons. He enjoyed traveling with Donna, especially their many trips to Europe. He loved practicing medicine, his patients and his colleagues. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. It “warmed his heart” that his children and their families are so close with each other.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Maple Lane and hospice for helping Mary’s final days be with little or no pain and for all the beautiful flowers which brightened up her room. A special thank you to the Peace United Church of Christ quilters for the gorgeous quilt, which was presented to Mary by Sue Rindt, as well as Pastor Marty Black for all her kindness and time she spent with her. When the end became near, Pam and John Meyer came to spend time with Mary and my neighbor, Laverna Barrick, came up and sat with me so I wasn’t alone. Also a special thank you to all my other neighbors who came together to support me day after day.

Many thanks,

Myrtle
