
Mary Braun, Oconto Falls, formerly of Gillett, died Friday morning, Aug. 14, 2015, at home. She was born Nov. 2, 1924, in the town of Underhill to Edward and Laura (Bistoff) Wollin. Mary grew up on the family farm in Underhill, where she attended Frank School, a one-room school house. As a young girl she moved to Milwaukee for a short time before returning to the area to care for her dying mother.
On April 28, 1945, she married Raymond Braun at Christ Lutheran Church in Hintz. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Milwaukee before returning to the Braun family farm, which they owned and operated for many years and is currently being run by the fifth generation of Brauns, in the town of Gillett.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett and was once active in the women’s activities of the church. Mary will be fondly remembered for great tasting meals she made from scratch for her large family, which she loved doing for them.
Survivors are her five children, Gary Braun, Oconto Falls; Marilyn (Harvey) Fifield, Cheryl (Ken) Kohn, all of Cecil; Karla (Jim) Holl, Larsen; Lori (Scott) Kroll, Corpus Christi, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Marc (Karen) Braun, Stacy (Brett) Lucht, Gina (David) Neumann and Greg Braun, Heidi (Matt) Aprill, Angela (Matt) Pensis and Matthew (Courtney) Fifield, Jeff Kohn, Michelle (James) Worthington and Kevin Kohn, Kimberly (Ryan) Abalan, Aubriann (Nick) Koeune and Brandon Holl, Chelsea (James) Cook and Tyler Kroll; 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Schewe, Caroline; two sisters-in-law, Delores Rymer, Green Bay; Sandy (Brian) Hunsaker, Texas; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray, on Jan. 8, 1995; her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Braun on Aug. 4, 2015; three brothers, Harold (Marcy), Norman (Mavis) and Walter (Pearl) Wollin; and three brothers-in-law, Herb Schewe, Richard Rymer and Leonard Braun.
Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls. Visitation will continue after 9 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2015, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Harvey Jeffers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
