Edward “Eddie” F. Wehmeyer, son of Clarence and Nina Wehmeyer, peacefully passed from this world to glory at 4:19 p.m., Aug. 4, 2015. In his youth, Eddie achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by painting the fire house. He began his professional career at the Ford North Chicago stamping plant where he was trusted with inspection of final assembly and quality control. He was a self-made man, a skilled entrepreneur. He owned and operated the Crystal Bar in Shawano and was a managing partner of Accurate Auto in Hayward, California. Additionally, Eddie owned and operated the Red Geranium ice cream parlor in Wautoma. His hobbies included toy train restoration where he became renowned as the man who created a market for American Flyer “S-Gauge” toy trains. He also owned and restored numerous antique/classic automobiles, including a 1929 Ford Model A business coupe, a 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, and a 1964 ½ Ford Mustang convertible. Eddie loved Wisconsin and the outdoors, and was known as a “straight shooter.” Everybody grew to love Ed’s direct way of communicating with honesty. He loved his country, his wife, family and friends and was known for going out of his way to lend a hand to whomever needed help.
