Jean V. Westphal, 94, Appleton, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014.

Jean was born on Aug. 9, 1920, to the late Paul and Emma (Radtke) Dobratz in Zachow. She married Howard Westphal, and he preceded her in death in 1993. Jean liked to play a mean game of cards as well as playing Yahtzee and giving to the slot machines. She was an avid Brewers fan and never missed watching a game on TV. She spent countless hours enjoying time at Rhonda’s home and cheering Joy on as her No. 1 fan at league bowling.

She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished time spent at family occasions.

We love you Grammy/Grammy Great!

She will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Rhonda (Dennis) Baus and Joy (Claude) Hietpas; grandsons, Nick (Rikki) Baus, Tony (Jen) Baus and Jonathan (Jodi) Baus; great-grandsons, Cole, Graham and Maxwell; great-granddaughters, Gracie and Isabella; sisters, Dolly (Robert) Ritchie and Katy Knaack; a sister-in-law, June Buss; and many other family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; a sister, Nona Kvaley; and other beloved family members.

A funeral service for Jean will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, Appleton, with the Rev. Lloyd Luedeman officiating. Entombment will be in Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. Friends may visit the family Sunday from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida St., Appleton, and again Monday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service directly at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

Special thank yous to Tim and Connie Hurley and Gwen Schwandt for all of your special care and loving attention to our dear mother.
