
Lyle Eugene Schwenke, 90, of the town of Wescott, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at a local nursing home. Born on April 7, 1923, in the town of Richmond, he was the son of the late William and Helena (Schultz) Schwenke.
Lyle lived in the Shawano area all his life, except for the years he served with the United States Army during World War II. While in the Army, Lyle was wounded in the spring of 1945 during the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart for his injuries. After returning home, Lyle met his future wife, Selma L. Mansee. The couple was married on Aug. 4, 1951, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in the town of Pella.
Lyle worked for Hotz Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 1985. When not at work, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, as well as hunting, fishing, listening to country music and spending time with his family and the family dog, Fritzl. In 2011, Lyle was selected to be a part of the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. He was a lifelong member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. where he served on the finance committee for several years.
Lyle is survived by his son, Michael (Pat) Schwenke, of Shawano.
Lyle was preceded in death by his wife, Selma, on July 15, 2011; his son, Randall, in 1984; his parents; and two sisters, Marie Berdoll and Lucille Teetzen.
