
Maynard R. Sohr Jr., 79, of Shawano, died unexpectedly while fishing on Aug. 13, 2015. Maynard was born on Nov. 29, 1935, in Shawano County to the late Maynard A. and Mildred (Westerfeld) Sohr Sr. Maynard graduated from Bonduel High School in 1953. On Jan. 30, 1960, he was united in marriage to Nancy Gilbertson. Maynard owned and operated his family’s farm in the town of Hartland for over 20 years before passing it on to his son in 1983. After farming, he went on to work as a custodian and as a school bus driver for the Bonduel School District. In 1986, Maynard married Susan Svendson. On Aug. 15, 1997, Maynard was united in marriage to Pauline “Foxy” Meidam Beyer near Shawano Lake in the town of Washington. In his free time, Maynard loved to be outdoors and was an avid sportsman.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Pauline; children, Shelly Zernicke, of Bonduel, Brian (Cindy Verhasselt) Sohr, of Bonduel, and Holly Zimmerman, of Shawano; grandchildren, Stacey, Charlotte, Talor, Elizabeth (special friend Ben), Alex and numerous step-grandchildren. He is further survived by Pauline’s children, Pete (Cindy) Beyer of Grand Chute and Diane Kovacs of Seattle, Washington; former wife Nancy Bahr; as well as former wife Susan and her children, Amanda Svendson and John Svendson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Swedberg-Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil with the Rev. Scott Ludford officiating. Inurnment will be at the United Methodist Cemetery in Bonduel. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
