Ione M. Schultz, 93, of Shawano, passed away Thursday, Nov. 27, 2013, in Green Bay. Born on May 18, 1920, in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Eleanor (Kaempf) Beversdorf.

On April 21, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leonard H. Schultz at the St. James Meeting and Dining Hall in Shawano because the church had recently been destroyed by fire and hadn’t been completed. The couple made their home in the Shawano area, where they raised their two children. After raising her children, Ione went to work for the Shawano County Public Health Office. She worked for 19 years, retiring in 1985.

Ione is survived by her two children, Steven L. (Verna) Schultz and Susan (Todd) Grunewald; four grandchildren, Heidi (Carl) Kirar, Josh Schultz, Mindy (Steve) Serwy and Jen (Nick) Meagher; and three great-grandchildren, Giada and Ruby Kirar and Siena Serwy, with a fourth great-granddaughter on the way. She is further survived by a sister, Doris (Rev. Dan) Reinheimer, of North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Barbara Beversdorf, of Shawano; and many nieces and nephews.

Ione was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard, on March 14, 1999; her parents; a brother, Daniel (Barbara) Beversdorf; a brother in infancy, John Beversdorf; and five sisters, Evelyn (Orie) Meyer, Ruth “Butchie” (Ted) Meidam, Margaret (Frank) Norris, Lorraine (James) Brunner and Barbara (James) Schroeder.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2013, at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be directed to the St. James Lutheran School in Shawano for tuition assistance.

Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano is assisting the family with the arrangements.

The family would like to give special thanks to Meadow View Assisted Living in Bonduel for the loving care Ione enjoyed there for two years and to Grancare Nursing Center in Green Bay, which Ione called home since April 14, 2008. Their staff has been incomparable in their care, love and understanding of Alzheimer patients. Thank you and God bless!
