
Sandra L. “Sandy” Eichstaedt, 72, of Shawano, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, Jan. 4, 2014, at Maple Lane Health Care Center, where she had been a resident for the past 14 months.
Sandy was born March 2, 1941, in Green Bay, a daughter of the late Wesley and Julia (McConley) Stokes.
Sandy attended school in Green Bay and Waukesha, graduating from Waukesha High School in 1959. Following high school, she moved back to Green Bay. She then attended the Green Bay School of Business. Following her course of study, she was employed by the W.E. Thew Supply Company in Green Bay.
On Aug. 12, 1961, she was united in marriage to Elmer Eichstaedt at the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Waukesha. Following their marriage the couple moved to Merrill, where they lived for two years. They then moved to Menomonee Falls and later to Shawano, where they lived for seven years. They left Shawano and relocated to Woodruff, where they lived for nearly 30 years. They returned to Shawano in 2007. While living in Woodruff, Sandy had been employed at the Marshfield Clinic in Minocqua for over 25 years.
Upon retiring, the couple had spent many happy winters in Green Valley, Ariz. Sandy and Elmer also were able to take many good trips to the Caribbean Islands and to Mexico. Sandy was very involved with the breeding and raising of Golden Retriever puppies, a task she embraced with great passion and ambition. She enjoyed baking, especially around the holidays. Her other hobbies were knitting, sewing and crafting.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Elmer Eichstaedt, of Shawano; three children, Timothy (Noreen) Eichstaedt, of Appleton, Thomas Eichstaedt, of Mosinee, and Katherine (Douglas) Veine, of Berrien Springs, Mich.; six grandchildren, Taylor, Megan and Noah Eichstaedt, Haley Eichstaedt, Brady and Evan Veine. She is further survived by several nieces, relatives and friends. Sandy also leaves behind her loving companion of 12 years, her Golden Retriever, Sadie.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Bernice Campbell.
Funeral services for Sandra L. Eichstaedt will be held on Friday, Jan. 10, at 11:30 a.m. at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. James Lonick, lay minister of prayer, will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call at Schroeder-Mickelson Funeral Service on Friday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has requested memorials to the Shawano County Humane Society in the name of Sandy Eichstaedt.
