
Phyllis Ione Knowles, 76, of Tilleda, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Weston. She was born on July 23, 1938, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Harold and Jeanette (Lory) Appleby, and has lived in this area for the past 14 years. On Feb. 19, 1955, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Knowles in Oceanside, California. Phyllis owned and operated a catering service, The Elegant Farmer, and also worked for Northwest and United Airlines. Phyllis was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion and was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham. Phyllis was also a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, an avid reader and enjoyed watching cooking shows, fishing and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bob; four children, Vicky (David) Haas, of Bowler, Patricia (Leslie) Turner, of Antigo, Roberta (Curtis) Baldwin, of Gillett, and James (Catherine) Knowles, of Marion. She is further survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jan Manule.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at the St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem, officiating, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
