Clyde Jon Schmidt

Clyde Jon Schmidt, 81, of Gresham, passed away Monday, April 28, 2014, at a local nursing home. Born on May 16, 1932, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Louis and Margaret (Hartel) Schmidt.

Clyde grew up in the Gresham area and attended Roosevelt Grade School. In 1949, he graduated from Gresham High School. On May 21, 1952, he was united in marriage to Marjorie L. “Margie” Ringel at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham. Clyde owned and operated a dairy farm near Gresham with his brother, Louis. When not working, Clyde enjoyed deer hunting, trout fishing and tending to his vegetable garden. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. Clyde was an avid Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers fan. He also enjoyed playing cards with the neighborhood card club for more than 40 years. Clyde was a member of the St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham. He was also a member of the Herman Town Board, where he was a supervisor for 20 years, a member of the WI Feeder Pigs, where he was a director for six years, a member of the Gresham Lions for 35 years, board member of the Gresham Co-Op and a director of the Lyndhurst Shipping Association.

Clyde is survived by his nine children, Dennis (Dorine) Schmidt, of Tilleda, twins Dave (Karla) Schmidt, of Greenville, and Danny Schmidt, of Gresham, Peggy (Dennis) Spanbauer, of Oshkosh, Bonnie Schmidt, of Shawano, Kathy (Mark) Kroenke, of Shawano, Kristy (Tim) Paiser, of Gresham, Karen (John) Peters, of Green Bay, Andy (Lori) Schmidt, of Gresham; 20 grandchildren, Kim, Jessa (Todd), Shana (Ken), Stephanie, Tomi Jo, Hunter, Nicholas (Shawn), Nathan, Neil, Natalie, Casey (Keegan), Travis, Amanda, Trevor, Katie, Klarissa, Ethan (Anna), Elizabeth, Eric, Eben; three great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, Greyson; two sisters, Joyce Reminger, of Leopolis, and Ruth Hoffman, of Gresham; a brother, Louis (Jackie) Schmidt, of Gresham; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Rudesill, of Shawano, Yvonne (Robert) Miller, of Gresham, Dorothy Ringel, of Shawano; a brother-in-law, Keith Rudesill, of Gresham; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Margie, on Nov. 25, 2010; a granddaughter, Jamie Schmidt; his parents; a sister, Maxine (Harvey) Fehrman; three sisters-in-laws, Doris (George) Hammes, Philly (Herbert) Genskow, Hattie Pettis; and five brothers-in-law, John Reminger, Vernon Hoffman Sr., Russ (Pearl) Ringel, Victor Ringel and Earl Pettis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. A parish wake service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 7 p.m.
