Russell E. Barnes

Russell E. Barnes, 66, of Keshena, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on Aug. 12, 1947, in Keshena, he was the son of the late John and Eleanor “Sissy Bug” (Webster) Barnes.

After graduating from Shawano High School, Russell enlisted with the United States Marines and proudly served his country for nearly three years during the Vietnam War. After service, Russell worked as an iron worker and later as a police officer and in construction. Most recently he worked at the Menominee Casino. On Sept. 25, 2007, he was united in marriage to Lorraine “Clowny” Summers in Keshena. When not at work, Russell enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, fishing and riding in the woods. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit.

Russell is survived by his wife, Lorraine; two daughters, Jody Barnes, of Green Bay, and Gayla Barnes, of St. Louis, Mo.; four stepchildren, Sara Munoz, of Appleton, Kelly Summers, of Chicago, Roland Peynetsa, of Oshkosh, and Monneedoe Haack, of Green Bay; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Jimmy (Michelle) Barnes, of Keshena; two sisters, Irene Barnes, of Keshena, and Marcene (Daryl) Barnes, of Keshena; numerous aunts and uncles, including special aunts Roberta Young, Donna Franklin and Flora Munoz, and special uncle Louis Webster; numerous nieces and nephews, including two special nephews, Jesse Barnes and Carl Barnes Sr.; and his dog, Cisco, whom Russell affectionately referred to as his “Little Boy.”

Russell was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beverly Bird; and three brothers, Dennis, Virgil and John “Poncho” Barnes Jr.

Military services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Menominee Veterans Park in Keshena. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the park on Thursday from noon until the time of services.

Swedberg Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Russell’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice, especially Patty and Leah for everything they did for Russell.
