
Anna Mary Metzger, 92, of Gresham, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at the ThedaCare Medical Center of Shawano.
Anna was born in Milwaukee on Oct. 12, 1923, to the late Leo S. and Marguerite (Fecht) Pross. On Jan. 16, 1943, she was united in marriage to Delton George “Jack” Metzger at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Milwaukee. Jack preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 2008, on their 65th wedding anniversary.
Anna worked at A & P grocery store in Milwaukee until 1983, when she retired and moved to Gresham. Anna was a lover, maker and avid collector of teddy bears and enjoyed taking her bears to different groups to do “teddy bear talks.” She was a member of St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church, where she was a part of the Christian Mothers. She was integral in the inception of the Red Lake Association and a member for many years. Anna was also a former member of the Milwaukee Eagles Auxiliary, the Shawano Christian Woman’s Club and the Shawano Medical Center Auxiliary, where she held many offices.
Anna is survived by her children, Katherine A. (Conrad) Pulver, of Shawano, Mary P. (Robert) Gray, of New Franken, William A. (Denise) Metzger, of Milwaukee, and Elizabeth A. (Tim) Huntington, of Gresham; eight grandchildren, Kim (Chuck) Mehlhorn, Shawn (Cindy) Pulver, Keith (Heather) Gray, Monica Gray, Mindy (Steve) West, William (Laura Miller) Metzger, Timothy (Rachel) Huntington and Pamela Huntington; as well as 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her parents, and her sister, Marge (Charles) Smith.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Inurnment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano Auxiliary.
